Photo Essay - My Trip to Italy

Prologue

Welcome to my blog. Today I'm going to write a photo essay about "my trip to Italy." I went to Italy in Chuseok, 2012 which was a really exciting experience for me although I felt sorry for my cousins and grandparents because I couldn't go to their houses in Chuseok as it is a Korean traditional holiday. I saw beautiful structures like cathedrals, Colosseum or other famous structures in Italy what I'm going to talk about right now. I hope you feel like you've been to Italy and enjoy as you read down my photo essay.

1st Day (2012.09.28)

After riding 12 hours airplane from Korea to Italy, I first went to the Colosseum with my family and it was hotter than I thought. It is a round stadium where gladiators fought in ancient Rome. At first, it looked like a round stadium, but as time went by, almost the half of it had been ruined. So, I was disappointed that we couldn't watch the whole thing, but it was a good experience to look one of the great ancient Rome structures and I could see the inside part of the Colosseum as the left picture. It looks a lot different from the picture on the right which is a outside part of the Colosseum.

2nd Day (2012.09.29)

            빨간옷을 입은 피노키

The next day, I saw the Leaning tower of Pisa. It was a rainy day and as I went there in the evening, and it is why the picture I took looks very dark. It is leaned 5~6 degrees and it was really tall. As you can see in the last picture, there is a cathedral named "Duomo" near the Leaning tower of Pisa and it was really beautiful and I cannot imagine how people made it. When I went there, they were saying a mass. As me and all of my family are believers of the Catholic church, we went in at the middle of the mass and said a mass. However, it was hard to understand because all the words priest was saying were in Italian. I also ate Lasagne which is the traditional Italian food and  bought almost bought 40 Pinocchio dolls to give to my friends as you can see in the picture in the right side on the top.

3rd Day (2012.09.30)

This is a picture of a place where exactly reenacted how Pompeii people lived. As it was in the outside, it was really hot and I had to roll up the sleeves. If you really go and see it, we cannot believe that people even lived in this environment. There were things similar to corpses and some of them were real and lot of tools that people living in Pompeii used. Also, as there were too many tourists, we had to make a line to go into some places but it really looks just like an ancient city. Although it was really hot and very thirsty, the structures were really interesting.

4th Day (2012.10.01)

    이탈리아 카프리섬

There is a city called Sorento in Italy, and in Sorento, there is a Kafri island. We first went to the Kafri island by ship from Sorento. Then we rode a special taxi which is a bit smaller from the ordinary one, and it was exciting to ride a swing chair and go up the mountain as the picture on the right. If you go up, you can see the beautiful scenery like in the left picture. It looks just looks like a drawing, but it's a real photograph I took and both the sky and the sea are really clean. When I reached at the top, I ate ice cream and enjoyed the beautiful scenery that cannot be seen in Korea. The color of the sea was like an emerald and was amazing.

5th Day (2012.10.02)

Do you know what this door is called? It's called a "door of the heaven." You can just think this as an ordinary door with a gold decoration on it, but if you look at it really carefully, inside every squares there is a curved picture. The weather was quite hot as you can guess by looking at people's clothes. I didn't like it because there were too many people but it is quite interesting to look people from all over the world. As Italy is famous for the catholic church, there is another cathedral near this which took very long to build, but very beautiful. I also took pictures in front of this door but unfortunately, I lost it. I recommend you to visit this door when you go to Italy someday.

6th Day (2012.10.03)

      베네치아#1 venezia

This was the most favorite part of my trip to Italy. I went to Venice. In Venice, as you can see in the picture, the river flows through Venice and I rode a boat through the river. (I hid my face with a face of a cat because the scenery was really taken well, but not my face.) There are houses across the river in the both sides. There are also some beautiful structures and some legends like if you touch something, you die in 3 years. It is also famous for helding a film festival and lot of houses are close to each other. After I watched all the beautiful scenery, I went out to the land by water taxi, and it was facinating! It went across the water very fast and I could feel the wind. It's why I especially enjoyed my trip to Venice in Italy.

7th Day (2012.10.04)

                  셋째날- 나폴리 항구

I went to Napole on the last day. It is one of the world's beautiful harbor. However, you have to see the reality. Although the harbor is really beautiful, the streets are full of trash and as you see in the picture on the left, the apartments are a bit dirty. I think it's a little bit beautificated as people said. Anyway, I was really happy that I've been to one of the world's most beautiful harbor. I was quite disappointed about Napole than I thought before, but it was a really good experience for me as I traveled in Italy.

Epilogue

I really enjoyed my trip to Italy when I was in the fifth grade with my family. We were in Italy for about a week and it was a good experience for me. Beside the pictures introduced above, we went to lot of places like beautiful cathedrals and historic sites of ancient Rome. I enjoyed the time when I went to Venice and Kapri Island the most. Actually, there are some things that I was disappointed because some of them were not good as I thought. However, I really made lot of experiences. I sometimes saw lot of musicians performing in the street and I've took pictures with a person that not looks like a person as he(she) has painted all of his(her) body to white or black and didn't move. I really experienced and enjoyed things that I couldn't have done in Korea. I recommend you to go to Italy if you can. Thank you for reading my photo essay.

  1. My uncle lives in Italy, so I have been there once. However, I do not remember most of my memories there because I was very little back then. However, since you wrote these photo essays about your memories of a wonderful trip, you would be able to remember about the trip for a longer time. Thank you for sharing such great stories. :)
